The Uptown Houston 2009 Holiday lighting event and fireworks are pictured. The event celebrates its 25th anniversary on Thanksgiving night, november 25, 2010.
On Thanksgiving night, Nov. 25, Post Oak Boulevard will sparkle as Houstonians gather to celebrate the Silver Anniversary of one of the city's most beloved traditions, the Uptown Holiday Lighting. This FREE event begins at 4 p.m. with holiday music and performances, and concludes with a special visit from Santa Claus and an extravagant fireworks show at 7 p.m. This year, in celebration of the event's 25th anniversary, Uptown Houston encourages all who attend to help Post Oak Boulevard shine by wearing any and all things that glitter silver in the night.
"It's incredible to think that we've been doing this for 25 years. When we first started this event, children were attending with their families; today, those same children are bringing their own families," said Uptown Houston District President, John R. Breeding. "What a testament to this true family tradition."
Marking the official start of the holiday season, the 25th Annual Uptown Holiday Lighting features festive live performances by the Houston Concert Band and the Salvation Army Harbor Light Choir, among other musical groups, starting at 5 p.m. At 7 p.m., children of all ages will join Mrs. Claus in Houston's largest public sing-a-long to welcome Santa Claus to the stage. Finally, in a traditional count down, Santa will illuminate half a million twinkling lights on 80 trees and building tops and an incredible fireworks grand finale will light the Houston sky.
The Uptown Holiday Lighting is free and open to the public. Those in attendance can help positively impact the greater Houston community by purchasing concessions including kettle corn, hot chocolate and cotton candy. A percentage of these sales will benefit Be An Angel, a non-profit organization serving children with multiple disabilities and profound deafness; also celebrating its 25th year.
Parking is free and available at the following locations: Centre @ Post Oak, Dillard's Garage, Four Oaks Place, The Galleria, Post Oak Central, Post Oak Plaza and Williams Tower.
